Harvest Cutie

Fall is my favorite time of year. When everything starts to cool down, leaves change into an array of spectacular colors, the days grow shorter and it’s time to just nestle in and enjoy a slightly slower paced life.

I wanted to create something different so I thought it would be fun to make a sketch using only my Prismacolor Pencils and no mixed media techniques. I recently bought a Strathmore 9″ x 12″ Toned Tan sketchbook and decided to use it for my project. This became quite a challenge as the colors are more muted on the tan paper.

My sketch had to have a few pumpkins but I wanted to add a furry critter of some kind. I searched the internet for a reference photo but nothing resonated with me. So I ended up finding a few different photos in my books and chose the parts from each one that I liked best. Then I lightly sketched everything on the toned paper and colored it in with the pencils using lots of layers.

This little guy is a West Highland Terrier. I normally draw in a much more whimsical style but I thought he turned out kind of cute. Hope you enjoyed this adventure in art with me.

Thanks for stopping by!

Share the Happy!!!
