Moonlit Currents: A Calming Coastal Watercolor

Featured

There’s something so peaceful about the feeling of standing near the water at night — the glow of moonlight reflecting across the shoreline, the gentle movement of the tides, and the calm that seems to settle over everything. That quiet feeling became the inspiration behind my newest original watercolor painting, “Moonlit Currents.”

This 5×7 abstract watercolor features deep midnight blues, glowing turquoise tones, warm sandy golds, and flowing details that create a dreamy coastal atmosphere. I wanted this piece to feel both calming and full of movement, like waves quietly drifting beneath a star-filled sky.

One of my favorite parts of creating watercolor paintings is watching the colors naturally blend and move across the paper. The soft transitions in this piece helped create that peaceful, atmospheric feeling I was hoping for. “Moonlit Currents” also includes an approximately .5 inch white border, making it easy to frame and display.

I think this painting would work beautifully in a cozy reading nook, bedroom, office, or any space needing a little softness and calm coastal energy.

✨ “Moonlit Currents” is now available in my Etsy shop here: Flowing Waters Art Shop

Creating Peace with ‘Whispering Shores’ Watercolor Art

Featured

There’s something about the ocean that never really leaves you—the gentle rhythm, the shifting colors, the quiet sense of calm it brings. That feeling is exactly what inspired my newest watercolor piece, “Whispering Shores.”

This painting came together in a way that felt very fluid and intuitive, almost like following the movement of water itself. I worked with washes of turquoise, hints of green, and warm sandy tones, letting each layer settle naturally into the next. The result is a piece that feels both peaceful and alive—like standing at the edge of the shoreline and watching the tide drift in and out.

One of my favorite details in this piece is the subtle shimmer. I added delicate touches of glitter to catch the light just enough to give it that soft, sunlit sparkle—like sunlight dancing across the water. It’s not overpowering, just a gentle little surprise when the light hits it.

Because this is a 5×7 watercolor on paper, I included a soft white border around the painting. I love doing this because it makes framing easy and gives the artwork a clean, finished look once it’s matted.

I can really see this piece living in a cozy corner, a bedroom, or even a quiet workspace—anywhere you want to bring in a sense of calm and a little bit of coastal energy.

If “Whispering Shores” speaks to you, you can find it available now in my Etsy shop here:

Discover Ocean-Inspired Art: Luminous Tides and Tidal Blooms

Featured

There’s something about ocean-inspired paintings that always pulls me in a little deeper—like a quiet pause, a breath, a moment of stillness and movement all at once.

Today I want to introduce two new pieces that feel especially connected in that way: “Luminous Tides” and “Tidal Blooms.”

Luminous Tides is all about movement and glow—those shifting layers of water, light, and color that feel like they’re constantly unfolding. It’s a 5×7 mixed media abstract where fluid marks and luminous tones come together in a way that feels both calm and energized, like the ocean catching light just before sunset.

Then there’s Tidal Blooms, its softer companion. This piece leans into that meeting point between sea and garden—cool ocean-inspired blues and greens woven with delicate touches of white and soft yellow florals. It feels like something quietly emerging, as if blooms are drifting in and out with the tide.

Together, they feel like a conversation—movement and stillness, depth and light, water and bloom. I didn’t set out to make them a pair, but they naturally found their rhythm alongside each other.

Both originals are now available in my shop if you’d like to take a closer look or bring one into your space. You can find them at Flowing Waters Art Shop on Etsy.

Thank you so much for spending a little time here and getting to know these new works. I always appreciate you stopping by and following along with my creative process.

Wishing you a beautiful, creative, and truly wonderful day.

Explore Silent Radiance and Gentle Currents: New Art Debuts

Featured

Two new pieces have just arrived in my Etsy Shop—meet Silent Radiance and Gentle Currents! 💛

These abstracts are part of a series inspired by childhood memories of growing up on a lake. That sense of quiet water, shifting light, and gentle movement continues to influence my work today. I find so much joy in the spontaneity of watercolor—watching pigments blend, soften, and settle into their own rhythm on the page.

Across each painting, a horizon of light draws the eye, bringing warmth and balance to the composition.

Silent Radiance carries layers of serene greens and cool blues, crossed by that luminous band of gold—evoking the meeting of land, water, and sky in a calm, reflective moment. Gentle Currents flows with a similar palette, its movement feeling a bit more fluid and meandering, as if the water itself is quietly in motion.

While each painting tells its own story, together they create a shared sense of place—different moments within the same calm, unfolding landscape.

If you’re looking to bring a touch of calm and inspiration into your space, you can find Silent Radiance and Gentle Currents in my Etsy Shop. I hope they bring a little light and a sense of wonder into your day!

Explore Golden Stillness and Quiet Horizons: New Art Debuts

Featured

I shared these paintings with you recently on my blog, and now they’ve officially made their debut in my Etsy Shop — meet Golden Stillness and Quiet Horizons! 💛

These abstracts were inspired by my childhood growing up on a lake, where we swam almost every day. I love the spontaneity of watercolors, letting the pigments move, blend, and find their own rhythm. For a little pop of light, I added a golden band stretching across each painting like a quiet horizon catching the sun, bringing warmth and balance to the composition.

Golden Stillness invites a moment of pause, with deep, grounding blues and dreamy greens drifting above. Quiet Horizons has a brighter, more playful energy, with lively greens in motion and a golden glow that feels like sunlight dancing on water.

Though each painting tells its own story, together they feel like two glimpses of the same serene landscape — a peaceful world hidden inside the paint.

If you’d like to bring a little calm and inspiration into your own space, you can see Golden Stillness and Quiet Horizons in my Etsy Shop. I hope these pieces spark joy and a sense of wonder in your day!

Exploring Abstract Techniques in Art

Featured

While I’m busy making little tweaks and fine-tuning my new Etsy Photography Shop, I’ve also been happily experimenting in the studio and diving into abstract work. Lately, it’s all about trying new techniques, playing with different supplies, and seeing what happens when I push myself outside my usual comfort zone.

These pieces were created on 140 lb handmade watercolor paper—and I’ll be honest, it’s not my favorite. There are areas where the paint just refuses to soak in, no matter how much I layer it on. The paper also has a yellow-green tinge, which works beautifully with some color palettes… and not so much with others. Part of the process, right?

That said, I am absolutely loving this color palette. It has a cool, calming vibe that really speaks to me. In the first image, though, I wasn’t thrilled with how the paintings were coming together. I tried adding a touch of shimmering metallic paint to see if that would elevate them—but they still didn’t quite win me over.

The second image features more organic shapes, and this is where things started to click. I love the way the shapes seem to glow, and that soft energy makes the piece feel really fun and alive to me.

By the time I reached the last image, I pretty much threw everything in my creative arsenal at it—short of the kitchen sink 😉 That one I truly love, especially the way the gold paint catches the light and adds that extra glow.

Art is always an experiment, and not every piece needs to be a favorite to teach you something new—and that’s part of what keeps it exciting.

I also want to send warm wishes to everyone affected by Winter Storm Fern. I hope you’re staying safe, warm, and well.

Thanks so much for being here and sharing this creative journey with me. Have a wonderful day!

Behind the Scenes of My New Etsy Photography Shop

Featured

Lately, I’ve been spending a lot of time behind the scenes, quietly building and reshaping my creative space. I’m in the process of setting up my new Etsy Shop, Flowing Waters Photo, and it’s been both exciting and thoughtful work. This shop will be dedicated solely to my photography—real moments, captured through my own lens. With so much changing in the creative world, it felt important to create a clear home for my photographic work. As new images find their place in the photo shop, I’m moving them out of my original Flowing Waters Art Shop so each space can shine in its own way.

While there’s been plenty of organizing, uploading, and decision-making, I’ve also been sneaking in some much-needed studio time. Those moments—brush in hand, paint flowing—have been a refreshing pause from the technical side of things. I’ve been experimenting with watercolor abstract ideas, letting myself explore without a set outcome in mind. Some pieces surprise me, others challenge me, and a few remind me that not everything needs to be perfect to be meaningful.

I love sharing this part of the journey with you—the in-between moments, the experiments, the small steps that often go unseen. Creativity isn’t just about the finished piece; it’s about the process, the curiosity, and the joy of trying something new. I hope you’ll continue to peek behind the scenes with me as Flowing Waters grows and evolves.

Thanks so much for being here. Have a wonderful day!

Whispers of Light ✨

As an artist, I often find myself deeply connected to the pieces I create. Each brushstroke carries its own story, and sometimes I like to sit with a painting for a while—reflecting on the process, making sure it feels complete, and letting the piece breathe before deciding what comes next.

Whispers of Light, my newest 18×24 abstract, is one of those pieces I took my time with. I blogged about it back in May, sharing how I paused in the middle of the night and waited for morning light to guide me. That quiet moment became part of the painting’s journey.

With its luminous layers of turquoise, rose, golden peach, and warm earth tones, this piece carries a sense of calm and gentle radiance—like a breath between thoughts. I’ve truly enjoyed pouring my heart into it, and now it’s ready to step beyond the studio.

It’s always a little bittersweet to move a painting from my studio into my shop—like closing a quiet chapter—but it also brings me so much joy to imagine it finding a new home. I love the thought of its soft glow becoming part of someone else’s story.

Whispers of Light is now available in my Etsy Shop: Flowing Waters Art Shop

If this piece speaks to you, I’d be delighted for you to take a closer look. Thank you for being part of my creative journey and for supporting handmade art.

Wishing you a day filled with light and inspiration!
