Have you ever stopped to think about how often you interact with artificial intelligence without even realizing it?

AI can sound like something futuristic—robots, complicated computers, and science-fiction movies—but it has quietly become part of our everyday lives. From the moment we wake up and check our phones to the music we listen to, the shows we watch, and the directions we take, artificial intelligence is often working behind the scenes.

Think about your smartphone. When it recognizes your face, suggests the next word in a text, filters unwanted emails, or organizes your photos, AI is helping make those things happen. Even your favorite streaming service uses AI to learn what you enjoy and recommend something you might want to watch next.

Shopping has changed, too. Online stores use AI to suggest products based on things you’ve searched for or purchased before. It can help us discover something we might never have found on our own. Sometimes those recommendations feel almost spooky—“How did it know I was looking for that?”—but they’re usually the result of patterns in our online behavior.

AI is also becoming a creative companion. Artists, writers, photographers, musicians, and other creatives are experimenting with AI tools to brainstorm ideas, explore possibilities, organize information, and try new approaches. For me, one of the most interesting things about AI is not simply what it can create, but how it can encourage us to think differently.

Of course, AI isn’t perfect. It can make mistakes, misunderstand information, and sometimes give us an answer that sounds convincing but isn’t correct. That’s an important reminder that technology should be a tool—not a replacement for our own judgment, curiosity, and common sense.

There are also bigger questions to consider. How much of our personal information should technology use? What happens when AI changes the way people work? How do we make sure technology remains helpful without allowing it to take over too much of our lives?

I don’t think we need to have all the answers right now.

Like many changes throughout history, AI brings both exciting possibilities and new challenges. The important thing is to stay curious, pay attention, and remember that we are still the ones deciding how we want to use these tools.

Maybe the most interesting part of AI isn’t what machines are learning about us. It’s what we can learn about ourselves as we adapt to a rapidly changing world.

And perhaps that’s a thoughtful Thursday question worth carrying with us:
