Diving into the Unexpected: My Underwater Abstract Adventure

I love using my watercolor journal for practice sessions whenever I’m experimenting with new techniques or exploring fresh design ideas. Today, I decided to play around in my 5.5×8.5″ journal, and what started as a bit of fun turned into an unexpected abstract piece! 🎨

At first, I wasn’t sure where the painting was going, but it soon took a surprising turn—right into an underwater world! 🌊 The result? Something totally different from what I had envisioned, but that’s what makes the creative process exciting.

There are parts of the painting that I’m really drawn to, and others not so much, but I’ll take those elements I love and carry them forward into my next artistic adventure. That’s the beauty of experimenting—it’s all about discovery!

I hope this inspires you to pick up your brushes and create something fun this weekend! Thanks for stopping by, and remember…

Finding Inspiration: My Angel Painting Journey

Inspiration can strike when you least expect it, and often in the most delightful places. During a visit to Naples on the West Coast of Florida, I stumbled upon a charming angel in a quaint little shop, and it was love at first sight. Standing 20 inches tall, she now graces my home year-round, serving as a constant reminder of that beautiful day—and she ended up sparking the idea for my latest painting!

This whimsical piece was created on a 4×6-inch canvas panel using acrylic paints. For her dress, I was inspired by the patterns on the Naples angel, and I decided to add my own playful twist. Using a white Posca pen, I adorned her dress with intricate designs that have quickly become one of the highlights of the piece for me. To finish it off, I added a meaningful quote: “may peace and love always have a home in your heart.”

I hope this painting—and the story behind it—encourages you to find joy in your own creative journey. Take a moment today to pick up your brushes, pens, or whatever inspires you, and create something that brings you joy.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend filled with inspiration! Thank you so much for stopping by!

Thoughtful Thursday The Persistence of Memory: Salvador Dalí’s Surreal Masterpiece

The Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dali

Salvador Dalí, one of the most iconic and imaginative artists of the 20th century, is best known for his dreamlike, surrealistic paintings that challenge our perceptions of reality. Born in Figueres, Spain, in 1904 (d. 1989), Dalí’s work spans a wide range of mediums, including painting, sculpture, photography, and even filmmaking.

Dalí’s art is characterized by bizarre, dreamlike imagery and meticulous detail, often incorporating unexpected elements that captivate and confuse. His most famous work, “The Persistence of Memory” (1931), features melting clocks draped over a desolate landscape, symbolizing the fluidity of time and the distortions of human perception. This painting, along with many others, showcases Dalí’s fascination with the subconscious mind, a theme he explored deeply throughout his career.

Dalí’s impact on the art world is undeniable, with his innovative techniques and distinctive style continuing to inspire artists and captivate audiences today. His works remain a testament to the limitless possibilities of creativity and the power of art to challenge our perceptions and expand our minds.

Whether you’re an art enthusiast or new to the world of surrealism, exploring Dalí’s work is a journey into the depths of the human psyche—one that promises to be as intriguing as it is enlightening.

Thoughtful Thursday Artist Trading Cards (ATCs): Miniature Masterpieces

Are you familiar with Artist Trading Cards, or ATCs? These tiny works of art, measuring just 2.5 by 3.5 inches, are a delightful way for artists of all levels to share their creativity and connect with others.

While the idea of painting in such detail on this small size seems daunting to me, I deeply appreciate the artistry of those who do. I prefer to collect these miniature masterpieces and admire the incredible talent behind them.

Recently, I found a double matte made exclusively for displaying ATCs and couldn’t wait to showcase my collection. The three paintings in the left column and the three on the right were created by one of my favorite artists, Gretchen Del Rio from California. Her unique spiritual style of painting is incredibly calming. Sadly, it seems she is no longer creating these beautiful works of art, so I feel truly blessed to have this stunning collection from her.

In the middle column, you’ll find toucans at the top and a shorebird at the bottom, painted by Anna Lee in Maryland. Her attention to detail is remarkable, especially the reflection of the bird wading in the water on the bottom.

The middle painting of geraniums was created by Elaine Hayes in Tennessee. This piece holds special meaning for me as my late sister, Helga, loved geraniums, and Elaine’s painting brings back wonderful memories of her. I also have other larger paintings from Elaine, including a blue crab that’s framed and hanging next to my studio table, putting a smile on my face every time I sit down to create.

ATCs are a wonderful way to connect with the artistic community and appreciate the diverse styles and techniques out there. If you haven’t tried creating or collecting them yet, I highly recommend giving it a go. It’s a rewarding and inspiring experience!
