Discovering Strathmore Acrylic Paper: My Artistic Experiment

Featured

One of the things I enjoy most about being an artist is experimenting with new materials and discovering how they influence the creative process. Recently, I decided to try Strathmore Acrylic Paper, and I created this small 6″ x 6″ abstract painting while getting familiar with its unique surface.

The first thing I noticed was the weight of the paper. At 246 lb, it’s thicker than the 140 lb watercolor paper I sometimes use. Even though it’s heavier, it still buckles slightly when paint is applied, but nothing major and certainly not enough to distract from the painting experience.

What I especially love is the refined texture. It reminds me of painting on a canvas while still offering the flexibility and convenience of working on paper. The surface allows the paint to glide smoothly while still providing enough texture to create interesting movement and layering.

For this piece, I was inspired by the soothing colors of water and the gentle movement of ocean currents. I built layers of turquoise, aqua, white, and touches of metallic gold to create a sense of flow and tranquility. The tiny dotted details add a playful rhythm that guides the eye across the painting and gives the piece a little extra personality.

Whenever I experiment with a new surface, I like to create a few smaller pieces first. It gives me an opportunity to learn how the material behaves before committing to larger works. Every paper, canvas, or substrate has its own personality, and discovering those differences is one of my favorite parts of the artistic journey.

Sometimes stepping outside of our usual supplies can spark fresh inspiration and encourage us to see our work in new ways.

Have you ever tried a new art supply that surprised you? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below.

Thank you so much for stopping by today. I hope this little experiment inspires you to try something new and embrace the joy of creative exploration.

Wishing you a magical and wonderful day! ✨

Chasing Light: When an Abstract Becomes an Ocean Sunset

Featured

There are moments in the creative process that feel less like painting… and more like discovering. This piece was one of those moments.

I set out with the simple intention of creating a landscape abstract—nothing too defined, just a gentle exploration of color and movement. But somewhere along the way, something shifted. The soft pinks, warm yellows, and dreamy blues began to blend in a way that felt familiar… and before I even realized it, an ocean sunset started to emerge. 🌅

It wasn’t planned. It wasn’t forced. It just… unfolded.

I began this painting with brushes, carefully laying down color and feeling out the composition. But pretty quickly, I felt the urge to let go of that control. My fingers took over, blending the sky, softening transitions, and adding that fluid, organic movement that only happens when you truly connect with the paint. There’s something incredibly freeing about that—no tools, just instinct.

The sky became this soft, glowing wash of color—almost like cotton candy drifting across the horizon—while the ocean below grounded the piece with movement and depth. And those tiny birds? They seemed to appear right when they were needed, adding just a hint of life and story.

What I love most about this painting is how it reminds me that creativity doesn’t always need a plan. Sometimes, the most meaningful pieces come from letting go, trusting your instincts, and allowing the art to reveal itself.

This one felt a little magical from start to finish. ✨

Have you ever created something that surprised you along the way?

Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing this creative moment with me. Wishing you a wonderful, and inspiring day!

New Art Releases: Moments of Renewal and Echoes of Joy

These past two weeks have been a whirlwind, but I survived! 🎉

Long story short—my computer crashed, and I was nearly in tears thinking I’d lost all of my work and photos. 😢 Thankfully, everything was recovered, and I now have a brand-new computer—yay! The downside? It came with all-new software, including a different version of Windows and my photo-editing program, so there’s definitely a learning curve. But I’ll get there😅

While my computer was down, I still managed to get some work done from my phone (which was not easy on that tiny screen!). I did, however, manage to list two new pieces in my Etsy shop:

🎨 Moments of Renewal – A 5×5-inch abstract painting that glows with depth and movement. Layers of luminous color and expressive brushwork create a radiant composition that feels alive—evoking both serenity and inspiration.

🎨 Echoes of Joy – A vibrant 4×12-inch modern abstract that bursts with rhythm and harmony. Energetic strokes and shifting layers of color capture a sense of celebration and motion, like joyful echoes reverberating through light and space.

✨ Both of these one-of-a-kind abstracts make a bold statement as wall art or as a shelf accent in your home, office, or creative space. Their vivid hues and dynamic energy invite reflection, spark conversation, and add a touch of contemporary elegance wherever they’re displayed.

Notes of Grace – A Symphony of Color and Joy

Every painting I create holds a little melody of emotion, and “Notes of Grace” is one that sings with color, movement, and harmony. This modern abstract began as an original 5×7 inch painting on wood, where I explored the rhythm between shape and hue—each brushstroke dancing in its own vibrant tempo.

Notes of Grace bursts with turquoise blue, playful pink, cheerful yellow, and deep brown, layered together in joyful balance. The lively shapes and candy-colored palette make it feel almost musical, as if the colors themselves are composing a song of gratitude and light.

Because I loved the way this piece radiates happiness, I decided to make it available as Giclée fine art prints—so more people can experience its bright, uplifting energy in their homes.

About the Prints
Each print is professionally created on premium 310g Giclée paper using archival, fade-resistant pigment inks that capture every vivid hue and subtle texture of the original artwork.

Available in multiple sizes—5×7, 8×10, 11×14, 16×20, and 18×24 inches—each print includes a 0.5-inch white border for easy framing.

New Colorful Abstract Paintings from the Studio

Lately, I’ve been diving into playful designs and new exciting colors, and I just finished two new abstract paintings that I’m excited to share! Each piece is a little world of movement and energy, inspired by my love of color and spontaneous mark-making.

One of them boasts deep, rich browns that immediately made me think of dark chocolate (because, let’s be honest, chocolate is always on my mind! 🍫). The other takes a softer approach, with soothing blues and gentle pinks that bring a sense of calm and tranquility. Together, they form a beautifully balanced duo—one bold and indulgent, the other serene and dreamy!

I can’t wait to get these up in my Etsy Shop, which will hopefully soon🤞. Until then, I’d love to know—what colors are inspiring you lately?

Creative Breaks: Studio Life and New Artwork

With the holidays seeming to arrive faster each year, I’ve been super busy managing the ongoing holiday sale and updating my Etsy Shop. Unfortunately, this has left me with limited studio time, which is such a bummer because creating brings me so much joy. 😥

Despite the holiday hustle, I’ve managed to carve out little pockets of time to work on these two abstracts! 😊 The first one, shown above, is a 3×4-inch cutie that’s starting to take shape. The second is a 5×7-inch canvas with a 1.5-inch depth, making it perfect for either shelf-sitting or wall décor. Both need quite a bit more work but I love where they’re going!

There’s still more to do in my Etsy Shop, but I’m prioritizing studio time because it keeps me grounded and happy. I’ve realized that even a small dose of creativity can make such a big difference in my day.

What about you? What do you do to lift your spirits when you need a quick boost?

Thanks so much for stopping by—wishing you a joyful and creative day!
