Embracing Watercolor: The Dance of Color and Texture

Featured

Sometimes a painting begins with a plan…
and sometimes it begins with color.

These two abstract watercolors began with flowing blues and vibrant greens, letting the pigments move and blend naturally across the paper. I added a glowing band of golden yellow, slightly off center, letting it find its own place within the composition.

The effect feels like a quiet horizon catching the light — a small, intentional touch that brings warmth and balance to each piece.

There’s something calming about that moment in the process, when the colors begin to suggest a place — almost like discovering a landscape hidden inside the paint.

Painting One (pictured left)

This piece feels soft and reflective to me.

• Deep blues gather toward the bottom like water catching the light
• A warm golden band glows across the painting like a quiet horizon
• Above it, drifting greens and blues create a misty, dreamlike sky

It reminds me of those peaceful moments when everything slows down and the world feels still.

Painting Two (pictured right)

This painting has a slightly different energy.

• Rich greens move more freely across the page
• The glowing yellow horizon feels brighter and more defined
• Soft textures below create the feeling of light shimmering across water

Even though these paintings were created separately, they feel connected — like two glimpses of the same peaceful place at different moments in time.

That’s one of the things I love about watercolor. The paint often leads the way, revealing scenes and moods you didn’t expect when you first picked up the brush.

Now I’m curious…

What do you see when you look at these paintings?
A quiet lake? Rolling hills? A distant shoreline?

I hope you enjoyed sharing this creative moment with me. Thank you so much for stopping by, and I hope you have a wonderful, magical day!

Embracing Winter’s Chill: Art and Inspiration

Featured

The past few weeks have brought some seriously cold weather, with back-to-back winter storms rolling through the eastern U.S. My heart went out to everyone up north dealing with freezing temperatures and power outages—and even the South felt the chill! Northern Florida even saw snow, which is pretty wild. Thankfully, things are starting to warm up a little now. 💛

One upside for me was spending more time indoors, which meant extra studio time and the chance to work on this new 24×24 abstract. I wish I could show you the “before” photos (technical hiccups!), but I’m really loving where this piece is right now. There are lots of layers in this one, and I enjoy seeing little hints of those earlier layers quietly peeking through.

I’m still deciding whether to add more lines or shapes. For now, I’m letting it hang out on the easel while I work on other things in the studio. There’s something nice about giving a painting a little space and seeing how it feels over time. And honestly? I kind of love it just the way it is… so this may be where I stop. We’ll see. 😊

I hope this little peek into my studio brightened your day. What have you been creating or enjoying lately? I always love hearing what you’re up to.

Thanks so much for stopping by and spending a moment here with me.

Notes of Grace – A Symphony of Color and Joy

Every painting I create holds a little melody of emotion, and “Notes of Grace” is one that sings with color, movement, and harmony. This modern abstract began as an original 5×7 inch painting on wood, where I explored the rhythm between shape and hue—each brushstroke dancing in its own vibrant tempo.

Notes of Grace bursts with turquoise blue, playful pink, cheerful yellow, and deep brown, layered together in joyful balance. The lively shapes and candy-colored palette make it feel almost musical, as if the colors themselves are composing a song of gratitude and light.

Because I loved the way this piece radiates happiness, I decided to make it available as Giclée fine art prints—so more people can experience its bright, uplifting energy in their homes.
