Embrace Spontaneity in Art Journaling

Featured

Have you ever started creating without having any idea what the finished piece would look like?

That’s exactly how this journal page came together. I began with random line drawings using a watercolor pencil, simply letting my hand wander across the page. From those first lines, I started adding watercolor, playing with turquoise, orange, blue, and green. Circles, dots, patterns, and a little sparkle followed, and before I knew it, the page had taken on a life of its own.

Just Follow the Fun

I love when a journal page evolves this way. There’s no pressure to create something perfect and no need to have the whole thing figured out from the beginning. One mark leads to another, one color suggests the next, and suddenly you have something you never would have planned.

This colorful page was a fun reminder of why I enjoy art journaling so much. Sometimes the best thing you can do is simply pick up a pencil, make a few marks, and see what happens.

And who knows? Maybe this little experiment will lead to something new. Stay tuned—I’ll be sharing more about that later this month.

Thank you for spending a little creative time with me today. I hope you find a few minutes to play and make something simply because it makes you happy.

Have a colorful and wonderful day!

The Emotional Impact of Spring Colors in Art

Featured

Fiesta Abstract 16×20″

There’s something about spring that feels like a fresh start. The colors return, the light shifts, and as artists, we naturally begin reaching for softer, brighter palettes.

Spring colors do more than look pretty—they carry mood and emotion.

Soft pastels like blush pink, lavender, and baby blue bring a sense of calm and renewal. They feel gentle and peaceful, like a quiet moment to breathe. Fresh greens, on the other hand, are full of life and possibility. They remind us of growth and new beginnings—like something beautiful is just starting to unfold.

Yellows add warmth and light. Even a small touch can lift a painting and bring a sense of joy. And those playful pops of coral, peach, and bright florals? They invite a more free, expressive approach—encouraging us to let go and enjoy the process.

What I love most is how the colors we choose often reflect how we’re feeling. Sometimes we lean into soft, calming tones, and other times we crave bold, energetic hues. There’s no right or wrong—it’s all part of the creative journey.

So next time you’re creating or even just observing a painting, pay attention to the colors that catch your eye. They may be quietly speaking to your mood.

Thank you so much for stopping by and spending a little creative time here with me. Wishing you a colorful and inspiring day!

Creating Vibrant Abstract Paintings

Two weeks ago, I shared an abstract painting born from tool experimentation—and I couldn’t stop at just one! This follow-up piece leans into bolder, more saturated colors: electric blues, vibrant greens, and deep purples, with bursts of gold and playful pink marks. I continued to use my silicone wedge tools and non-traditional brushes to apply and scrape paint, letting the layers build and textures emerge.

What I love most about this piece is how it feels alive—there’s energy in the jagged lines, soft scribbles, and dots that dance across the surface. I didn’t overthink it. I just let the colors lead and responded in the moment.

Sometimes, breaking away from the “right way” to use a tool opens the door to something unexpected—and beautiful.

Thanks so much for stopping by and joining me on this creative journey. Have a wonderful weekend!
