Embracing Winter’s Chill: Art and Inspiration

Featured

The past few weeks have brought some seriously cold weather, with back-to-back winter storms rolling through the eastern U.S. My heart went out to everyone up north dealing with freezing temperatures and power outages—and even the South felt the chill! Northern Florida even saw snow, which is pretty wild. Thankfully, things are starting to warm up a little now. 💛

One upside for me was spending more time indoors, which meant extra studio time and the chance to work on this new 24×24 abstract. I wish I could show you the “before” photos (technical hiccups!), but I’m really loving where this piece is right now. There are lots of layers in this one, and I enjoy seeing little hints of those earlier layers quietly peeking through.

I’m still deciding whether to add more lines or shapes. For now, I’m letting it hang out on the easel while I work on other things in the studio. There’s something nice about giving a painting a little space and seeing how it feels over time. And honestly? I kind of love it just the way it is… so this may be where I stop. We’ll see. 😊

I hope this little peek into my studio brightened your day. What have you been creating or enjoying lately? I always love hearing what you’re up to.

Thanks so much for stopping by and spending a moment here with me.

A work in progress

I wanted to share with you today a little about my process. When I start paintings I don’t usually have a plan other than adding texture to the canvas. Normally, I just let things unfold and follow my intuition.

This was a 20×20 painting I started a while ago and it sat because well, nothing was coming to me. I would look at it as I walked by and my mind was blank. But that’s okay because sometimes that’s just how it goes and it’s part of the process.

I guess what I didn’t like was some of the greenish colors that emerged when I painted it. Over the weekend however, I added bits of color and liked where it was going. Now I’m working on adding shapes and more color. The slides below will show the progress of this painting so far. It’s still not finished so stay tuned to see where it ends up…..

Have a wonderful week and thanks for stopping by!!!

Space Odyssey Abstract

You may have noticed I’ve been fascinated with stars and planets lately. This painting started out as an abstract and when I painted in the shapes based on the underlying texture, it quickly took on an outer space feel.

I thought the drips on this one turned out kind of cool. I wanted to bring more attention to them so I accented them with glitter and added a bit of shading for more depth. I named this one Space Odyssey and it’s painted on a 10×10 inch stretched canvas.

If interested, it’s available for purchase in my Etsy Shop.

Determination Abstract

Determination Abstract by Maria Vidaurre

I finished my latest abstract, Determination, which we all need more of at times. I love this quote by Zig Ziglar: “I believe success is achieved by ordinary people with extraordinary determination.”

This painting was created on an 8×8 inch wood panel, with lots of texture, shimmers of gold and a bit of glitter for bling. If interested, it’s available for purchase in my Etsy Shop.

Hope your day is beautiful!
