Dangers of Keto Diet

I’ve talked about this before but it’s really important to remember how truly unique each of us are. From our personalities, to our looks to how our bodies react to foods, especially diets. A little over a year ago, I gave the Keto Diet a try for 15 days. But it didn’t agree with my body. I ended up losing weight but not fat. When I went back to eating my normal diet, which is vegan and I reintroduced the carbs, I put the weight back on and then some.

I came across some people who loved the Keto Diet so much that they stayed on it for a long time. But what most people don’t know, is the Keto Diet was designed to be followed for short periods of time. This is a diet of high fat. Even though some say it’s the good kind of fat, bottom line is fat is still fat. And too much of anything will take a toll on your body.

Long story short, by staying on the Keto for a long period of time, the people I spoke with developed serious health issues and were told to get off of the diet. The adverse affects of prolonged Keto Dieting is dangerous and include:

  • Hepatic Steatosis (fatty liver disease)
  • Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
  • Kidney Stones
  • Hypoproteinemia (abnormally low protein)
  • Keto Flu (symptoms mimicking a cold flu)
  • Rapidly Increased Cholesterol Levels
  • Vitamin & Mineral Deficiencies
  • Dehydration

Also keep in mind if you already have pre-existing health conditions you very well could make these worse or add more complications to your list. So please always consult with a doctor before and during major dietary changes so you can monitor your progress and avoid any serious adverse affects.

  1. Well, good for you! I’m not sure what this diet is, but it sounds like it really didn’t work.
I am personally against any diets. I’ve never had weight or metabolism problems. Just today, wearing pants from 20 years ago since we have a crazy heat wave and they are comfortable. I’m retirement age now, and I have seen on two sides of the globe how artificially improved supplements cause more problems.
Clean and natural food in moderation and all kinds of it has always worked well. I still remember times when I worked in Europe when we didn’t have any weight problems, any allergies and we didn’t stick to any diets. My great grandma lived to 107, and as you can imagine, she had never heard of any diets. Stayed active, had bright mind and ordered everybody around. The key to my own success is ability to grow my own food as much as possible.
Keep in mind that all types of food exist for a reason, and there are extremely essential elements which especially contribute to brain health and cognitive function, and they can be only found in food derived from animals.
I relate the abnormal numbers of brain diseases and dementia to the fact that for quite many decades now people have been advised to avoid any fats and especially animal fats. I’ve done medical research and worked for more than 35 years with medical research companies globally. Basically, I had to review patient data, write advice to physicians, compile clinical research data and clinical trial reviews. That’s where my knowledge comes from, but I also have added my own observations and analysis to that.
I wish you all the best! Natural and clean, meaning absolutely natural, like grown in a real soil, not in substance and from tube, will always be better.

    • I couldn’t agree more. Keto is basically a high fat, no carbs diet. I’ve learned the hard way, that untouched, unprocessed foods are the best way to go. Diets never seem to work. I went vegan 5 years ago and never looked back. I feel so much better but could still use some improvements. Thanks for sharing your wisdom on this subject, always greatly appreicated 💖
