Explore Unique Mixed Media Flower Art

Nature speaks through flowers in unexpected ways. Inspired by this idea, I wanted to approach my recent abstract flower paintings with a fresh perspective. After some reflection, I decided to transform them into mixed media pieces that bring an extra layer of dimension and texture.

I’m excited to share the first two in this new series, now available in my Etsy Shop: “Blooming Whispers” (Blue) and “Ruby Reflections” (Red). Each artwork is hand-painted with watercolors and mounted on a 4×6 inch basswood plywood base. To enhance their uniqueness, I’ve incorporated a delicate oak branch wrapped in gold wire, adorned with colorful beads, and added a touch of yarn to the blue one. These intricate details elevate the designs, creating a captivating blend of elegance, creativity, and sophistication for any space.

Stop by the shop to see these stunning new pieces and add a touch of artistry to your home!

I hope this inspires you in some way. Have a beautiful and creative day!

Exploring Dark Watercolors in Abstract Art

I decided to try something a little different in my 5.5×8.5″ watercolor journal. For this practice painting, I worked mostly with darker watercolors (shown above-left) instead of my usual brighter palette (shown above-right). I love how bold it turned out and how the brighter colors really pop against the deeper tones.

What didn’t quite meet my expectations was the neon-colored paint pens I used—they didn’t stand out as much as I’d hoped. One challenge with watercolor abstracts is that the paint moves and lifts when wet, which can cause those vibrant colors to get a bit muddied.

Still, it was a great practice piece, and I enjoyed the process. That said, I definitely prefer a lighter, brighter background for my work. How about you—do you lean towards bold and dark, or light and bright?

I hope this inspires your creative muse this weekend! Thanks for stopping by!!

Thoughtful Thursday The Heartwarming Story of Yankee Candle

Nothing sets the cozy tone for fall like lighting candles and snuggling under a soft blanket. Over the years, I’ve tried many candles, but one of my all-time favorites has always been Yankee Candle.

The story behind Yankee Candle is as heartwarming as the glow of its products. It all began in 1969 when 16-year-old Mike Kittredge wanted to give his mother a Christmas present but couldn’t afford to buy one. Resourcefully, he melted crayons to create a candle for her. A neighbor, charmed by his creation, convinced him to sell it to her. With the money from that sale, he bought wax, made two more candles—one for his mother and the other to sell—and from that humble beginning, Yankee Candle was born.

Today, Yankee Candle offers one of the widest selections of scented candles and home fragrance products in the market, and they stand as the largest specialty brand of premium scented candles in the United States.

Whenever I sit down to create in my studio, I love setting the mood by lighting a candle. Holiday scents are my go-to, especially since we don’t experience much of a seasonal change here in the South. A great fall scent instantly elevates the coziness and warmth of the studio while I paint.

Last year, I was obsessed with the Cozy Cabin Escape scent, but sadly, it has been retired. I needed a new candle so I headed to my local Yankee Candle store and was thrilled to discover Apple Pumpkin Pie. It’s different from last year’s scent, but just as comforting and delightful.

While Yankee Candle are available in many retail stores, the best place to explore the full range of scents is their store. These candles also make fantastic gifts for any occasion. If you haven’t tried them yet, I highly recommend giving them a go!

Thanks so much for stopping by today—I hope you enjoyed the post!

Diving into the Unexpected: My Underwater Abstract Adventure

I love using my watercolor journal for practice sessions whenever I’m experimenting with new techniques or exploring fresh design ideas. Today, I decided to play around in my 5.5×8.5″ journal, and what started as a bit of fun turned into an unexpected abstract piece! 🎨

At first, I wasn’t sure where the painting was going, but it soon took a surprising turn—right into an underwater world! 🌊 The result? Something totally different from what I had envisioned, but that’s what makes the creative process exciting.

There are parts of the painting that I’m really drawn to, and others not so much, but I’ll take those elements I love and carry them forward into my next artistic adventure. That’s the beauty of experimenting—it’s all about discovery!

I hope this inspires you to pick up your brushes and create something fun this weekend! Thanks for stopping by, and remember…

Thoughtful Thursday Delicious Vegan Pumpkin Pie Smoothie Recipe

Pumpkin pie is one of my favorite treats for Thanksgiving but that only comes once a year. So to get into the spirit of Autumn sooner I love making pumpkin pie smoothies.

When you slowly sip this savory drink bursting with flavors of cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg you can’t help but to sit back and take a moment to truly enjoy the season. This recipe is very easy to make and is super delicious! I always try to use organic ingredients when they’re available.

Vegan Pumpkin Pie Smoothie

  • 1 C Unsweetened Almond Milk or other Plant Based Milk
  • 1/2 Can Organic Pumpkin Puree
  • 1 Small Ripe Banana
  • 3 Tbsp Organic Rolled Oats
  • 2 Organic Pitted Dates
  • 1 heaping tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/4 heaping tsp Ginger
  • 1/8 heaping tsp Nutmeg
  • 1 Tbsp Maple Syrup
  • 1 C Ice

Place all ingredients in the blender and blend until smooth. Top with sprinkled cinnamon and enjoy! (Makes about 2 glasses)

Pro Tip: If you prefer a thicker, creamier smoothie, 1/4 to 1/2 of a hass avocado does the trick! It has a mild flavor and gives the smoothie a milkshake-like consistency. Try it first without, and add the avocado if you want a richer texture. You can also toss in 2 tablespoons of organic chia seeds—just soak them overnight in water and blend for added thickness and nutrients. Finish with a cinnamon stick for an extra touch of fall flavor!

Cheers to cozy autumn days and delicious, nourishing treats! 🎃 Sip, savor, and embrace the season with every blend. Until next time!

Finding Inspiration: My Angel Painting Journey

Inspiration can strike when you least expect it, and often in the most delightful places. During a visit to Naples on the West Coast of Florida, I stumbled upon a charming angel in a quaint little shop, and it was love at first sight. Standing 20 inches tall, she now graces my home year-round, serving as a constant reminder of that beautiful day—and she ended up sparking the idea for my latest painting!

This whimsical piece was created on a 4×6-inch canvas panel using acrylic paints. For her dress, I was inspired by the patterns on the Naples angel, and I decided to add my own playful twist. Using a white Posca pen, I adorned her dress with intricate designs that have quickly become one of the highlights of the piece for me. To finish it off, I added a meaningful quote: “may peace and love always have a home in your heart.”

I hope this painting—and the story behind it—encourages you to find joy in your own creative journey. Take a moment today to pick up your brushes, pens, or whatever inspires you, and create something that brings you joy.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend filled with inspiration! Thank you so much for stopping by!

Thoughtful Thursday 5 Easy Tips to Decorate Your Entryway for Fall

As the crisp air and vibrant colors of fall settle in, it’s the perfect opportunity to refresh your home’s entrance with seasonal charm. Your front door is the first thing guests see, and with just a few simple touches, you can create a warm and welcoming space that reflects the beauty of autumn. Here are five easy tips to transform your entryway into a festive fall haven:

  1. Wreaths with Natural Elements: Swap out your summer wreath for one featuring fall staples like pinecones, dried leaves, and pumpkins. A wreath with a mix of orange, gold, and deep reds instantly signals the change of season.
  2. Pumpkin Display: Arrange a cluster of pumpkins in varying sizes and colors around your doorstep. Mix real and faux pumpkins for texture, and don’t forget to include unique shades like white and pale green for a fresh look.
  3. Mums and Lanterns: Place a few pots of chrysanthemums on either side of your door for a pop of vibrant color. Pair them with rustic lanterns filled with candles or string lights for a cozy evening glow.
  4. Layered Doormat: Add depth to your entryway with a layered doormat look. Start with a plaid or buffalo check rug underneath and top it with a simple welcome mat for a cozy, farmhouse feel.
  5. Seasonal Signage: Incorporate a fall-themed sign that welcomes guests. Phrases like “Hello Fall” or “Give Thanks” painted on wooden boards bring a personalized, inviting touch.

Whether you keep it simple with a few well-chosen décor pieces or go all out with a full fall display, touches like these can transform your front door into a festive focal point that welcomes everyone with seasonal cheer! I’d love to hear how you’re decorating for fall—feel free to share your own ideas and inspirations in the comments and let’s celebrate the season together!

I hope this inspired you to spread some seasonal cheer! Thanks so much for stopping by!
