Thoughtful Thursday WFPB

As most of you know I started eating vegan due to health issues. But in the last several years companies have created many plant based products including cheese which actually tastes pretty good. So I fell into the trap of time constraints and plain old convenience.

My body started to develop aches and pains. It wasn’t anything major but it was also different than before I went vegan. I didn’t pay much mind to it but a month before we went on our holiday vacation I decided to go Whole Foods Plant Based (WFPB).

You may be asking why I did this when I’m already vegan. Here’s the scoop, a soda and bag of potato chips is vegan but is it healthy for you? The obvious answer is no because it’s highly processed, contains lots of sugar, salt and other things you can’t pronounce.

Whole Foods Plant Based (WFPB) is just that. You’re eating fruits and veggies that aren’t processed. So no plant based products made in a manufacturing plant. You buy your produce, prepare it and then eat it – plain and simple just as God intended.

Every morning when I’d wake up I would lay in bed assessing the daily aches and pains. It took about 3 weeks and I woke up one morning assessing the discomfort and to my surprise there was absolutely nothing! I felt perfectly fine. I continued to lay there because there had to be something. But nope, there was nothing. I was amazed that eating processed foods caused so much inflammation resulting in pain that I felt throughout my body especially my joints. Plus I dropped weight, my energy went through the roof and I felt like I turned the clock back 30 years!

What I learned from this is you don’t necessarily need to eat plant based foods but definitely eat whole foods. If you want to feel good, have more energy, lose weight reduce or completely eliminate the processed foods from your diet. You may be surprised at how great you can feel!

Thoughtful Thursday – Earth Day

Earth Day is being celebrated this Saturday, April 22, 2023. It’s origins began in 1970 as a way to change the public’s outlook and bring awareness to environmental issues plaguing our beautiful planet.

Almost 7 billion people share this amazing planet with 10 million animal species and 300,000 plant species. That’s a lot of inhabitants when you think about it. Plus the entire surface of the earth is a series of connected ecosystems that provide precious resources that sustain all life here on Earth. So it’s imperative that we take care of our planet.

We live a world of plastic and although it was a great invention because it made so many things possible, it may also be our undoing. Stats show that in 2021 there was 363,762,732,605 pounds of plastic polluting the world’s oceans. Plus microplastics which are tiny pieces of plastic can be found in almost all water systems around the world including rivers, lakes, streams and oceans. It is said that there is more microplastic in the ocean than there are stars in the Milky Way. These are very scary stats because where does that leave us in 10, 20 and even 50 years from now? Will this planet be able to sustain life at all?

We all need to pitch in and do our part to reduce, reuse and recycle. We need to work together to come up with better ideas and solutions to reducing our footprint on this planet. So that life will continue to thrive.

Thoughtful Thursday Benefits of Aloe Vera

Growing up my parents had a beautiful garden and they loved growing plants for home remedies. Any time we got a sunburn or burned ourselves on a hot dish, dad would get a cutting from the large aloe plant he had growing out back.

I remember him peeling the skin and exposing the clear jelly substance inside the leaf. It would ooze a thick yellow liquid that was actually the sap. The clear jelly part of the plant is what would make your skin fell better in no time.

The Aloe Vera plant was originally from Africa but can be found all over the world. It has been used for centuries for it’s medicinal benefits. Aloe Vera is not classified as a cacti but rather a succulent.

It can be used both internally and externally. Studies have shown it can boost collagen production and promote the healing of wounds. It also has antioxidant and antibacterial properties. It’s great for many skin irritations including bug bites, sunburns and can improve and even prevent wrinkles. As a mouth rinse it helps reduce dental plaque. When you drink the juice which is available in most grocery stores it helps to relieve digestive issues and can also lower blood sugar levels. It’s amazing the number of health benefits it has but these were just few.

So if you’re looking for natural remedies having one of these plants should definitely be on your list. But be aware it may have adverse interactions with certain medications when taken internally. So as with any lifestyle change always seek the advice of a medical professional to make sure it’s a good fit for you 😊
