5 Simple Tips to Organize Your Home Like a Pro

Have you ever had clutter sneak into your home or office and create a disastrous mess? That’s me right now. I don’t even know where all the stuff comes from. It’s like I’m a magnet for collecting stuff, and that stuff attracts more stuff, and before you know it—BOOM—there’s stuff everywhere!! 😂

But don’t worry, we can break the cycle. Here’s how to organize like a pro (or at least like someone who knows where their keys are).

1. Declutter First (Yes, That Means Letting Go)

Before you start organizing, you have to ditch the extra stuff. Ask yourself: Do I use this? Does it bring me joy? Or is it just here to mess with me? If it’s the latter, donate, recycle, or toss it before it multiplies again.

2. Use Smart Storage (A Fancy Way of Saying “Put Things in Bins”)

Pro organizers love bins, baskets, and labels. Why? Because they keep your stuff from turning into an uncontrollable avalanche. Clear containers = no more guessing what’s inside that mystery box from 2019.

3. Give Everything a Home (So It Stops Wandering Off)

If something doesn’t have a designated spot, it will find a way to spread chaos. Find a home for every item, and when you’re done using it, send it back like it’s on a mission.

4. Maximize Vertical Space (Because Floors Aren’t Storage Units)

When in doubt, go up! Shelves, wall hooks, and stackable storage keep things neat while freeing up space. Bonus: you’ll finally stop tripping over that pile of books you vowed you’re going to read.

5. Set a Daily Reset Routine (AKA, Save Future You From Stress)

Spend 10 minutes tidying up each evening. Future You will thank you when they walk into a clutter-free space instead of a scene from a home disaster movie.

The key to staying organized is consistency—plus a little humor when stuff gets out of control. Start small, build good habits, and take back your space, one decluttered drawer at a time!

Thoughtful Thursday Mission Organization

Imagine going to the library and the books are randomly placed on the shelves. You’d get frustrated because you can’t find what you’re looking for. If you were the person in charge of getting new books for the library you wouldn’t know which books to add because you don’t know what’s already there.

We all have a tendency of acquiring “stuff” that seems to pile up and multiply all on it’s own if we don’t tend to it. Maybe we’re just not an organizer by nature or we’ll get to it later but then later never comes. All this “stuff” stops the flow of energy causing you to become unhappy, stressed and lose clarity to name a few.

I’m getting ready to do the floors in my studio. It’s something I’ve been putting off but needs to get done. I’m not looking forward to packing everything up because I have a lot of art supplies I use. On the other hand this is going to force me to really look at what I have and ask “do I really need this, does it bring me happiness.”

I wanted to get some new ideas and a fresh outlook to organizing my studio so I purchased a book by Desha Peacock, “Your Creative Work Space” which is available on Amazon.

I started reading the book and love it so far. Desha shares examples of creative work spaces from different people in different professions. She also shares her wisdom for organizing your sacred space and keeping that way. I’m already very excited to put some of her ideas to use and create better energy flow in my studio.

I’m not sure how this is going to work out but I’ll do my best to keep posting and sharing the happy with everyone. Wish me luck 😅

I’m making some changes in my home, including my studio. I normally don’t like change because it takes me out of my rhythm. But one good thing that’s coming out of the chaos is it’s forcing me to declutter.

We tend to get caught up in the normal rhythm of things because our minds are running on autopilot. But when you bring in change, it makes you look at things more closely. One of my favorite quotes is by Marie Kondo “Does it bring you joy? If not get rid of it!” It’s a simple enough rule to follow but is easily overlooked.

Another rule that Marie Kondo talks about is that when you bring something new into your home, something old must go. This keeps you from accumulating too much clutter. But who can let all those treasures that you’ve spent countless years collecting simply go? I have a tough time with that one, lol. But it is a good rule to follow.

As far as my studio is concerned I’ve decided to put some things that I don’t use much temporarily in storage. This way, I give myself a certain length of time and if I don’t need the things in that box, they can go. If I find I need something, then I have to make room for it in my studio. It makes it easier because I don’t have to overthink the whole process.

The Art of Feng Shui – Declutter Your Home

With a little more extra time at home these days I’m paying attention to my surroundings more. I’m really noticing how looking at certain things can make you feel.

A few years ago a good friend introduced me to Feng Shui and I thought it was interesting but was very skeptical. The more I looked into it, the more it caught my attention. There are many books on the subject. But a lot of them get too technical and I just wanted a simple place to start. I have a few favorites that I’ll share at the bottom of this post. The main idea is to have good energy flow in your home. “Yes, this is a real thing.”

As we go through life, we collect lots of “stuff.” Whether it’s gifted to us, purchased as I’ll get to it some day, or a memory from a special time in our lives it really starts to accumulate. When too much “stuff” accumulates in our home, energy can stagnate. The funny part is most of this “stuff” we never even use or remember having because it’s simply put in some corner of the house and forgotten.

As I’m walking through my home, I see certain areas where the “stuff” has accumulated and I don’t like how it looks, much less how it feels. So to get the energy flowing again I’m decluttering those areas. I’m working on either giving away the “stuff” in good condition that some one else can use or tossing it. I only keep the what makes me happy.

You can easily get overwhelmed when starting this process, but take small steps. Divide a room into sections. Do one part of a room, then move to the next part and so on. If you have more time, keep going and knock more of it out. But by breaking it down into sections, it makes it more manageable and thereby more doable.

The most important key is to keep things decluttered and organized once you finish a section. It makes you feel good and keeps the positive energy flowing through your home and ultimately through your life.
