Handmade Art Journal

Featured

I love books and creating my own journals, it’s wonderful. When I heard that Amy Maricle of Mindful Art Studios and Ali Manning of the Vintage Page Designs were hosting a free online workshop called Botanical Books on how to make a beautiful handmade journal I was thrilled and couldn’t wait for the day to come.

Well, yesterday was the big day and I loved every minute of it! Ali did a wonderful job teaching how to create the journal itself and Amy taught how to fill it with botanical designs. I was able to create my the first two paintings in the journal and I’m looking forward to filling it up ๐Ÿ˜Š

For the covers I used a watercolor paper design from my stash which I always like to have on hand. This one had a botanical design from a handmade leaf stamp I made so I thought it would be perfect for this journal. Plus it was really popping with color.

Definitely check out both of their websites as they’re packed full of fun courses, ideas and lots of inspiration. You can also find them on Instagram @AmyMaricle and @VintagePageDesigns.

Also, Amy is hosting a challenge next week The Power of Starting Simple. Just hop on over to find out more details about the challenge and join in on the fun!

Hope you’re having a fabulous weekend, thanks for stopping by!!

Thoughtful Thursday Draw Yourself Calm Book Review

Featured

Last year I had the pleasure of participating in Amy Maricleโ€™s Inchie Challenge which was a lots of fun. I had so much fun that I bought her book, “Draw Yourself Calm.”

It’s a wonderful book that is well written and teaches you to simply slow down. The best part is you only need minimal supplies to get started. I find the practice of creating these mini works of art very calming and relaxing, a good way to destress. It’s also a good warm up for me to get the creative energy flowing.

In this video you an see the inchies I made for Amy’s 2022 Challenge that I put into a handmade book I created. I hope you’ll hop over to her site, Mindfulartstudio.com and learn more about Amy and her work. Highly recommended!

Stay inspired and create some art!

Thanks for stopping by!!

Inchie Challenge Journal

I had lots of fun creating the inchies for Amy Maricle’s 2022 Inchie Challenge and now they needed a home. I came across this 2.25″ x 3″ mini journal I started a while ago. I had set it aside because I wasn’t sure what I wanted to fill it with but the inchies seemed to be the perfect fit. So I assembled the journal, painted it and added my inchies.

Thought the video turned out kinda cute. What do you think?

Inchie Challenge – Part 3

Almost done with my studio, thank goodness. This is the end of the Inchie Challenge. It was quite fun creating these little 2×2″ pieces of art. I’m sad it came to an end but I plan on continuing the practice.

I hope you enjoyed coming along on this journey with me. Have a wonderful weekend and thanks for stopping by!!

Inchie Challenge – Part 2

My studio is taking longer than anticipated. It’s the last of the art supplies that need to find a home in the studio that is giving me a bit of trouble. But despite that I’m continuing with Amy Maricle’s Inchie Challenge at Mindful Art Studio.

These are my next 3 days of prompts. What I’m loving about this challenge is working on a 2×2 inch piece of paper forces you to keep things to a minimum. I also love that I’m creating lots of mini pieces of art that I will eventually use in a journal.

These are my creations for Days 4 through 7:

  • Day 4 – Sprinkle
  • Day 5 – Simple
  • Day 6 – Nesting
  • Day 7 – Mussel

Weโ€™re going on day 8 and it will be completed by day 11. There’s still time to join, just visit Amy’s website at Mindful Art Studio and click the link to join the Inchie Challenge.

Inchie Challenge

I’m still working on getting my studio back together but really needed a little bit of artsy fun so I joined Amy Maricle’s Inchie Challenge at Mindful Art Studio. This is my first time joining and I’m having lots of much needed fun.

Everyday Amy releases a new prompt for a total 11. The rules are to create a mini piece of art on a 2×2 inch square piece of paper. Since I love using my watercolor paints, I’m using watercolor paper for my inchies but really you can use anything.

These are my creations for the first three days:

  • Day 1 – Leaf
  • Day 2 – Twist
  • Day 3 – Ocean

We’re up to day 5 but I was working hard on my studio the last few days so I need to catch up. You can still join just visit her website at Mindful Art Studio and click the link to join the Inchie Challenge.
