Color Lovers Challenge – Days 29 – 30

Well, I made it! 30 Days of Color Prompts. I really enjoyed this art journey. I found some of the prompts to be easy, while others were a real challenge and took me out of my comfort zone. But as a result, I found new colors that I fell in love with 💖 I also learned new techniques and had a few happy accidents, lol.

Thank you for joining me on this wonderful adventure! These are my last 2 entries. If you missed my earlier creations, I’ll have links at the bottom of this post.

Day 29 Clouds/Sunset or Sunrise

For this prompt I’m used my sunrise art I previously made with bright fun colors. This is a mixed media piece made on wood using pyrography, also known as wood burning. I painted it with acrylic and watercolor paints and added fabric and a few rhinestones for a little bling.

Day 30 – Artist Choice

This is the last prompt, Artist Choice. I thought I’d try painting something new. So I painted the night sky in watercolor with a little scenery. I added a little shading with colored pencils and of course, glitter for twinkling stars.

Color Lovers Challenge – Days 26 – 28

The last week of Jodi Ohl’s Color Lovers Challenge which runs 30 days. Just a few more to go! If you missed my earlier creations, I’ll have links at the bottom of this post. These are my latest creations:

Day 26 – Favorite Color

My favorite color is blue, for my love of the ocean. So for this prompt I did an abstract and added a fun quote “We do not stop working and playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop working and playing.”

Day 27 – Contrast

The prompt was contrast so I decided on painting the night sky in watercolor. No words, no quotes, just the magic and mystery of the night sky.

Day 28 – Apple/Orange/Lemon/Pear

I took today’s prompt literally. I made a whimsical watercolor painting of an apple, orange, lemon and pear and added texture to each one. I added a quote: “Eat Well, Live Well, Be Well.”⠀

Color Lovers Challenge – Days 22 – 25

I joined Jodi Ohl’s Color Lovers Challenge which runs 30 days. We’re in the home stretch with just a few more days to go!! If you missed my earlier creations, I’ll have links at the bottom of this post. These are my latest creations:

Day 22 – Winter

I painted a watercolor snowman for winter, it was the first thing that came to my mind, lol. I made the trees out of paper I previously made and decorated them with garland and baubles. I added a quote by Lucuis Annaeus Seneca: “True happiness is… to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future.”

Day 23 – Analogous Colors

For this prompt I used a violet/blue, blue and green/blue for the painting. I was short on time so I had to get this done pretty quick. I played with lettering and added glitter for a little bling.

Day 24 – Red and Green

When I think of red and green, my mind goes straight to Christmas and the holiday season. I made an 8×10 canvas with acrylic paints, added stamped images and Christmas cut outs and accented it with gold ribbon.

Day 25 – Excitement

Today’s prompt is excitement and my mind goes to fireworks and all the shimmering sparks in the night sky. Although my art may not necessarily evoke a feeling of excitement for the viewer, I can assure you that I was very excited as I played with new techniques and mediums. I had so much fun with this one.⠀

Color Lovers Challenge – Days 18 – 21

I joined Jodi Ohl’s Color Lovers Challenge which runs 30 days so I’m posting several days at a time. If you missed my earlier creations, I’ll have links at the bottom of this post. These are my latest creations:

Day 18 – Energy and Movement

I painted a little ballerina in watercolor and added the quote “Dance is an art, paint your dream and follow it!”

Day 19 – Ice Cream

When I was a kid I used to love the fun ice cream flavors like cotton candy, blue raspberry and mint chocolate chip which is still my favorite. So I decided to create an abstract in colors representing all the fun flavors from way back when. I added a fun quote: “You can’t buy happiness but you can buy ice cream. And that’s kind of the same thing.”

Day 20 – Water/Ocean

I painted the ocean with watercolors and then made a sail boat out of paper I previously made. I added a quote by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow: “My soul is full of longing for the secret of the sea, and the the heart of the great ocean sends a thrilling pulse through me.”

Day 21 – Earth

It was only a matter of time before an angel popped up in my challenge. But I like to think we have a greater power watching over us, so for this prompt I painted an angel holding the earth. I added a quote by the Dalai Lama: “It is our collective and individual responsibility… To preserve and tend to the word in which we all live.”

Color Lovers Challenge – Days 14 – 17

I joined Jodi Ohl’s Color Lovers Challenge which runs 30 days so I’m posting several days at a time. If you missed my earlier creations, I’ll have links at the bottom of this post. These are my latest creations:

Day 14 – Forest/Mountains/Grass

I painted this a while ago in watercolor but thought it went well with the prompt.

Day 15 – Flowers

I decided to do a loose watercolor painting of flowers and of course couldn’t resist adding glitter for a little bling 😉 I added a quote by Henry David Thoreau which I love “This World is but a canvas for our Imagination.”

Day 16 – Sad

I had a hard time with this one because when I looked at all of my paint colors, they’re all bright and happy. That’s not a bad thing but definitely made it hard to paint “Sad.”

So this was my take on it, an abstract watercolor, kind of a stormy day. I added a quote by Vivian Greene “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.”⠀

Day 17 – Candy

Yesterday’s prompt was candy and with the holiday season fast approaching, the only thing that came to mind was a candy cane which I love. So I painted this in watercolor and added a little quote, “Candy Cane Wishes & Mistletoe Kisses.”

Color Lovers Challenge – Days 10 – 13

I joined Jodi Ohl’s Color Lovers Challenge which runs 30 days so I’m posting several days at a time. If you missed my earlier creations, I’ll have links at the bottom of this post. These are my latest creations:

Day 10 – Happiness

I did a watercolor wash with a watercolor butterfly painted separately and then cut out. I added a quote from the Dalai Lama” Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.”

After putting everything together in the journal I made a last minute change and decided to write the quote directly on the page. This is why you shouldn’t create art when you’re tired because I finished this late at night and well, I left out the word “made” from the quote 😂😂😂 Oh well…

Day 11 – Neutral

This was a little challenging because I love my bright, fun colors. I painted an abstract and added a quote by Teilhard de Chardin “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience… We are spiritual beings having a human experience.”

Day 12 – Vibrant

I debated on using this but it just went perfectly for the prompt because it is most definitely vibrant. This is actually a work in progress. I’m painting a 24″ x 36″ canvas with bright fun happy colors. So stay tuned for the finished piece.

Day 13 – Spring

Since I used a canvas for Day 12, I thought I’d continue with this 9″ x 12″ one. It’s one of my favorites for spring. When I think of spring, I think about cute little bunnies. There’s lots of color and texture on this piece. My favorite part is the crocheted flowers. What do you think?

Color Lovers Challenge Week 2

As you may know I joined Jodi Ohl’s Color Lovers Challenge. It runs 30 days so I’m posting several days at a time. If you missed my earlier creations, I’ll have links at the bottom of this post. These are my latest creations:

Day 6 – Soft & Cuddly

I can’t think of anything softer and more cuddly than Winnie the Pooh. I made this little Winnie painting a while ago and had it set aside so I thought this was perfect for the Day 6 prompt, Soft & Cuddly. I added a Winnie the Pooh quote “Nobody can be uncheered with a balloon.”

Day 7 – Favorite Color Palette

I love happy colors so my favorite palette is pink, blue and yellow. I painted very loose flowers with leaves and added a quote by Abraham Lincoln “We can complain because roses bushes have thorns or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses.”

Day 8 – Warm

For warm I came up with a palette of yellow, orange, red, purple and pink. I applied a coat of gesso to the pages and after it dried I painted them with acrylic paints. I added the quote “Love warms the heart.”

Day 9 – Autumn

I love the colors of Autumn leaves so I did a loose watercolor painting of leaves with lots of glitter. Got a little carried away with the glitter. I added the quote “Autumn paints in colors that Summer has never seen.”

Color Lovers Challenge

Last week I entered Jodi Ohl’s Color Lovers Challenge. I posted Day 1 this past Saturday. Since it runs for a full 30 days I thought I would post a few of these together. I’ve been enjoying adding quotes to all of these and I think I’ll continue doing that. Hope they inspire you in some way 💖

Day 2 – Teal and Orange

I painted the background teal with acrylic paint and made some marks while it was still wet. I painted a piece of watercolor paper bright orange and a page from an old book, green. I cut out all the pieces and glued them in place. I added the quote, “Sometimes you have to make your own Sunshine!”

Day 3 – Cool

There’s nothing better than a nice cool night under the stars. I tried something new, it didn’t quite go as planned but I still like it for my first attempt. I added the quote by Vincent Van Gogh “I know nothing with any certainty. But the sight of the Stars makes me dream.”

Day 4 – Black and White

I painted the background with black acrylic paint and made a few zentangle tiles. I drew in a few doodles and added a quote from Lau-Tzu: “Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love.”

Day 5 Anger/Hurt

This was a tough one for me because I love happy colors. So the only colors that came to mind were all the warm colors like red, yellow and orange. I painted an abstract in my journal and added a quote by Benjamin Franklin “Anger is never without a reason, but seldom a good one.”

Stay tuned, there’s more to come…

Underwater Watercolor Journal Page

I gave myself a challenge to create a journal page in 90 minutes or less and this is what I ended up with. I started with a quick pencil sketch in my Strathmore 9″ x 12″ Visual Journal. Next I used watercolor pencils to paint the page and let it dry. I added detailing and shading with colored pencils, Sakura Micron Pen 005 and a white Posca Pen. For a little texture, I filled in the bubbles with Inkssentials Glossy Accents. And of course, lets not forget the bling with Stickles.

Give yourself a challenge and see what you can come up with. You’ll be surprised!

Have a fantastic week!

Thoughtful Thursday

THOUGHTFUL THURSDAY

Confidence

Not sure if you read last week’s Thoughtful Thursday Post but I entered a virtual challenge for the week from Garmin, competing against 9 other runners. The goal was distance. It officially ended on Monday and I walked 33.9 miles and took 1st Place!! That was such a milestone for me. I was never able to do this when I was younger, much less win 1st Place but I was determined. I wanted to throw in the towel a few times but I had to reach down deep and find the courage and perseverance to keep going. Everything in my body was starting to hurt. But I really wanted to win.

I had no intention of walking this much but Jon, who was in 2nd Place was absolutely relentless. Every time I tried to put a little more distance between us he up’d his game and closed the gap. I am very thankful for Jon because he pushed me to do more and more. More than I ever thought I was capable of. Almost 34 miles in 1 week!!! It was unbelievably hard and I’m so glad it’s done because I’m exhausted.

After finishing this race, my confidence in myself definitely went up a few notches. I now know that that I have the drive and ability to tackle what may appear as a monumental task and come out victorious. Even if I don’t know how to go about it, I’m more than capable of figuring it out and that’s a very good feeling.

This wasn’t an official race. There were no trophies, no one cheering you along from the sidelines. It was just me and my Garmin, tracking my miles. But I’m very proud of my virtual win because for me this was so much more than just winning.

What area of your life do you need to boost your confidence in? Take on that monumental task and prove to yourself that you CAN do it!
